Looking Up and Heading Home
Sometimes they say it's all about the journey. For the weary commuter, emerging out of the Park Ave. Tunnel and into the fading light splashing against the window panes of Harlem, this would be true. Tucked away in a seat, somewhere between the office desk and the front door of home, the commuter looks out across the landscape, happy to be in transit, and not quite at the destination.

Marathon Commuting
Wouldn't it be nice if you had your own cheering squad to get you home every night? Normally, just getting out of work is motivation enough to get to the train or bus - but sometimes it can be daunting. Getting to Grand Central can be a marathon all by itself if you work far from a subway stop or have to change subway lines. And if you're tired, or it's raining, it can be all the more of a chore. So lets get some barricades, some cheering people enjoying their Happy Hour, and go cheer on your co-workers as they sprint up Park Ave. South to 42nd Street. After all, who said the elite runners in the marathon should have all the fun?

Keep On Chugging Along

It's changed over the past week. The air is sharper, the colors deeper, and you can almost smell the leaves as they start falling to the ground. And just as the season has changed, so has my commute. I'm no longer commuting daily by train into Manhattan. My current job is closer to home, and I admit driving on I-95 is just not the same (but I see some beautiful sunrises).
I will continue to post images that reflect my current and past commuting experinces. I also hope to have some new adventures; whether it's trying other commuting methods or just going for a ride. So keep on checking in, and I'll keep on chugging along....

Water Vapor Vision
The sky is alive! One minute it's speckled with puffy wind clouds and the next minute dark steel grey rain clouds pour out of nowhere delivering stinging rain pellets that catch you at any moment. When looking skyward over the past week, water vapor has condensed in unique patterns and levels making up skies that may leave some thinking, "That could only happen in a pretty painting. Furthermore, the clouds and sky are the first harbinger of the changing seasons. The humid soft palette of a summer sky - pale yellows, cerulean, and faint pinks have been replaced by sharp blues, greys and strong golden yellows of a winter sky. The trees may take several more weeks to change, but the sky is letting us know cold is on its way.

The Three Email'keteers
There they are, standing tall against the first rays of morning light, Blackberries in hand, it's the Three Email'keteers! Tapping and clicking with total mind concentration as the first cup of their caffeinated beverage is starting to pulse throught their bodies. They're an example for us all as we stand waiting for the morning train.

Soaked
Sometimes the phrase "tunnel vision" has been used to describe commuters - all they want is to get on "their" train, get in "their" seat and go home. Well, all of this was disrupted with Hurricane Irene, the Metro North New Haven Line came to a standstill, and was one of the last train lines to get back up and running after the storm. So, I experienced "tunnel vision" of a different kind, walking through the rail tunnel underpass in Old Greenwich, CT, down near Ole's Boathouse, in about 18 inches of floodwater. To say that it felt surreal didn't do it justice, it rather felt like I was sloshing through a flowing spring in a cave miles below the earth's surface. Instead of the faint rumble from trains above, there was symphony of splash and drip of water rushing through the tunnel returning to Long Island Sound after engulfing ground far from shore.
It says it all, right?

More Work Is Coming...
Hurrican Irene was very mean.
She huffed and puffed and distracted me from my routine.
So check back in a few days,
And I'll make sure there's new work to be seen.
