Start with the Sketch, Finish with Watercolor

Hi, here are two new pieces of finished work for the week.  Both started out as pencil and/or pen and ink drawings on the train, but I finished them off with watercolor over the weekend at home.

Check out some of the scribbles in this sketch, they're actually sounds and phrases I hear every night as I take my train home on weeknights, usually the 7:34pm train.

A grouping of silhouettes from the busy city streets as I walk to my office from the subway - people, dogs, cabs, buses, bicyclists, and delivery trucks.

Heads, Shoulders, and Hands

I know the jingle goes "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes," but the seats on the train are just a little too close together for a good view, but there are always lot of hands to draw.  Another collection of fellow commuters, and I'm trying to experiment with adding color in just a few places.

Faces

During the past week I focused on putting together a composition of my fellow commuters concentrating on their Blackberries, newspapers and games on their iphones. I'd be lucky if anyone would sit still for five minutes at a time without their face moving.  Remember to click on the images for a better view (maybe you might recognize someone?)

First Sketches

Welcome, I have just started the blog today, so here are a few samples to start out. Check in on a weekly basis for more great sketches and views from my riding the rails!

One of my first sketches in this series, a pen and watercolor sketch looking down the elevated tracks.
